Zombie Apocalypse

Okay I’ve been watching the show “The Walking Dead” these last few days and it’s started me thinking about the adaptations one would have to make to survive and where the line gets drawn. I mean do we try and hold onto the final glimpses of humanity left or do we restart to the darwinistic theory of survival of the fittest.

The first thing I think would need to be considered is what type of zombies we’re talking about here. So I’m going to go for the ones which aren’t super quick but can move at a similar speed to us and are slightly stronger you know, so they can rip flesh or what have you. But for what they’ve gained in physical ability they lose out on intelligence.

Okay now onto the moral questions one may face. The first being how would you react upon an encounter with a zombie it comes down to the fight or flight mentality, me personally would probably go for flight, they have not rationale about us being another life we are solely food to them. But then my cardio comes into play and have to be honest I think I may find that lacking, so I’d probably need a large weighted stick to deal a trauma to the head.

Second item that must be considered is do we behave as a pack animal or do we try and act alone, for me, I would have to go for small packs maybe 5 at largest anything more decisions start falling to one man, which may not be the best choice. Any less you could easily get over run, almost inevitably leading to death.

This leads nicely onto the third issue, how do you act to other groups of humans, in my prospective there’s three possible outcomes, A) You ignore each other and go your own way. B) Conflict with them as other humans would surely be in direct competition for resources etc. C) Join them. In all honesty ideally A would be the best option yet I seem to think B would be the more likely.

Another thing to be considered is where would you try and stay, or would you be nomadic. I’d say the main options for settling would be in a city, in the country side or in some form of highlands. First I’ll discuss these then move onto my opinion of the nomadic lifestyle. Okay so settling in a city, the pro’s of this is there are many places to live with shelter etc. not to mention the abundance of supermarkets where food would be easy to obtain without too much effort/risk. On the downside however, As this is where the majority of populations are chances are there’d be a lot of zombies as well, not good. Okay, so I move onto the country side, pros of this are the abundances of natural resources and the isolated nature of it reduces the risk of encountering a zombie. However due to how isolated you are medical resources would be a rarity. And the high ground option would come again with a lowered chance of bumping into a zombie however at the same time would present yourself with the problem of everything being more extreme the higher you go.

The nomadic option comes with a lot to be considered, do you have any direction in where you travel or is it just to not keep yourself pinned down. the directional choice comes with the ability to carry on looking with the possibility of settling down provided the right place is found. However the random movement does also present the opportunity to ensure you can’t be caught on your heels due to emotional ties you may have with a place, however both of these present the issue of not knowing how long it’d be till you next found a place with food, water and a decent amount of shelter.

All things considered I think I would go for the country side, the chance of encountering a pathogen would be so greatly diminished due to the lack of human encounters I don’t think it needs to be too greatly worried about.

Okay the final thing I’m going to consider, not due to running out of things to write about but rather lacking motivation to continue. Right so if you managed to find a member of the opposite sex, or same if that’s how you roll, that was interested in you and vice versa do you risk it. I know that seems obvious in a world where everything’s been torn apart why not try and find something worth living for right? But then what if it came down to the issue of one of you getting infected if the other was your sole reason for surviving you end two lives rather than one. Although with such an epidemic to occur one would have to adopt the responsibility of needing to repopulate the human race, does that mean with anyone and anything or what?

So to conclude, when the zombies come I will be looking for four people to live with, who are capable of keeping up with a tedious cardio regime and are handy with a weapon, and ideally all female, to go to a farm somewhere remote and warm for a lot of the year, enjoy the little things you know. And all in all try and avoid being Jamie a la dente.
